Year 5 - Cedar Class

We have had a busy but exciting end to our Year 5 journey!
This term, we visited John of Gaunt and Clarendon school for the Year 5 taster days. This involved meeting current students, walking around the schools and participating in different lessons. We are so proud of the way the children immersed themselves into this experience and represented ‘The Grove’ really well. A firm favourite was burning crisps to investigate energy levels in a science lesson and dodgeball/basketball in PE!
In our Writing lessons we have written ‘day in our life’ accounts. These will be placed into a time capsule and buried in September to celebrate the opening of our new building! We have also participated in the whole school poetry competition and written fact files, linked to our Geography work, about famous explorers.
In Science this term, we have focused on living things and their habitats – including our RSE lessons. As part of this, we conducted an investigation into which seed grows the tallest and linked to our writing lessons, wrote a conclusion based on our results.
In PE, we have focused on sprinting techniques and how to apply this during sports day. We have also participated in the whole school ‘walk for water’ where we were crowned the champions! The children enjoyed an ice lolly out in the woods to celebrate their victory.
The final days in Year 5 have been spent focusing on the whole school Arts Week, where we have use Modroc to create self- portraits in the style of Quentin Blake. We also created and performed a dance routine and freeze frames based on Roald Dahl’s ‘Charlie and The Chocolate factory’ and learnt and performed a call and response song.
The whole Year 5 team is so proud of what the children have achieved this academic year and the wonderful memories we have shared together. We know you’re going to have the best time in Year 6!
