What a busy, but wonderful term it has been for our EYFS children!

This term, we all went on our very first school trip to Trowbridge Library. We walked beautifully to the library and were very sensible when crossing the roads. We all enjoyed the exercise! At the library, we listened to some wonderful stories read by the librarians, and we were able to take out books. Lots of us felt inspired to read, and we can’t wait to start the Summer Reading Challenge! A big thank you to the adults who came with us — we couldn’t have done it without you.

We welcomed several special guests this term, including Jen the dentist. She taught us how to look after our teeth and which foods to eat or avoid. She was incredibly impressed with our knowledge! While we were at the library, we chose some books about dentists and have really enjoyed reading them in class.

Two more visitors were Josh and Michelle, who are police officers in the Forensic Collision Investigation Unit. They brought a very cool police van for us to see! We were allowed to try on their hats, and they told us all about their jobs. We learned that the police are here to keep everyone safe, and when it is the right time to call 999. They were very friendly and even put the lights and sirens on for us to hear and see!

This term has been very hot indeed! We have learnt all about sun safety and what to pack for a sunny holiday. We’ve had to adapt our play to avoid the afternoon sun, which has meant lots of water play and extra trips to the woods! Hopefully, we can use the sun safety knowledge we’ve learned at school to stay safe over the summer holidays.

The children have loved learning about people who help us. One of our favourite topics was learning about animals and vets. We had lots of animals to look after, including taking their temperatures, listening to their heartbeats, and giving them bandages. Later in the term, we wrote the most amazing information leaflets about how to look after pets. These will be coming home soon — please take a look at them, they’re fantastic!

One of our favourite woodland sessions this year was building dens in the woods. We used our expert teamwork skills to share the sheets, pegs, and string, and constructed the most wonderful shelters. This was so much fun, and we even got to enjoy a snack inside our dens.

The whole EYFS team is so proud of what the children have achieved in their first year of school. Every child has made huge progress — not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. It has been such a pleasure and a privilege to be your teachers this year. We know you’re going to have the best time in Year 1!
