The Grove Primary School Curriculum Intent
Our school ethos and values are built around LEARN, an acronym which outlines our vision and values for the children in our school and community: LEAD, ENDEAVOUR, ASPIRE, RESPECT and NURTURE. By winding this ethos through the school - we ensure that Every Moment Matters, so that the children who attend The Grove are getting what they deserve.
Throughout the school, we support the children to identify the qualities that they have as individuals and how they can use these to LEAD others through demonstrating positive attitudes and behaviours in all that they do. We believe leadership grows through the everyday things: how we talk to each other, how we behave, and how we show care and respect. We support the children when ENDEAVOURING to overcome challenges and to have high expectations in every aspect of the school day. At The Grove, we want the children to realise and reach their full potential and to feel secure with who they are as individuals - always ASPIRING to achieve the best that they can.
Our inspiration at The Grove Primary School is to provide the best possible education, enrichment and environment for every member of our school community so that they feel NURTURED and are confident to achieve their best. We show RESPECT at The Grove, as we champion equity and equality, ensuring that all students can access our curriculum and extracurricular activities. Through our inclusive approach to teaching and learning, the children become adept at fostering a culture of respect, empathy, and understanding for all. We believe that our school should be an inclusive community where all aim high, achieve well and develop self-confidence, positive values and beliefs, a sense of community, well-being and caring attitudes towards others.
We aim to support a friendly, calm and purposeful school ethos, which offers security and opportunity for personal growth as well as providing an exciting, challenging and inspirational school where children thrive and aspire the best for themselves. We aim to ensure our children are well-prepared for, and excited about, the next steps in their journey – able to make positive decisions and choices for themselves and seek out and embrace challenges and goals. We value each child’s journey, knowing that growth doesn’t just happen at the end point, but all the way along.
Our curriculum has been designed so that the skills taught within each year group are built upon progressively throughout the school. To develop strong foundational knowledge, we build in opportunities for regular recall and recap of key knowledge through ‘Grove’s Great Questions’ and ‘Subject in a jar’. In addition to this, we understand the importance of language development and promote the use of new vocabulary within each subject, recognising them as essential tools for communication and self-expression. By promoting oracy throughout the curriculum, we empower the children to articulate their thoughts, ideas, and aspirations confidently. We make the most of every part of the day, because even the smallest experiences help shape our children’s future.
Our aim, through our curriculum, is the root children’s learning and experiences in a hands on experiential approach. From trips and visitors to creative end projects, we want to empower our pupils to build upon their prior knowledge and experiences and apply this to new learning and understand how it applies to wider life and culture beyond the school gates ensuring Every Moment Matters.
In short, The Grove is a school where we strive to ensure that children establish strong roots, face challenges with confidence and cultivate the capacity to explore and grow.
